Controlling spectral transmission while reducing surface reflections
Material and coating: two different roles
The guide says DuraTech's base material was selected through spectroscopic analysis. LR means Low Reflection and identifies the surface coating, separating material transmission from surface reflection.
The UV boundary and the start of visible light
The guide describes blocking wavelengths below 406 nm, encompassing UV to 400 nm and the high-energy start of visible light. The chart shows a gradual transition; read transmission at each wavelength from the specific sample curve.
These are optical specifications reported by the source. They alone do not establish a clinical outcome or guarantee prevention of retinal damage.
Documented example: DuraTech LR 1.60 MR-8
The 1.60 MR-8 sample brochure describes the lens as clear and almost colourless. Approximate graphical transmission rises from near zero at 400 nm to about 99.8% near 650 nm.
These are graphical estimates without detailed test conditions. Approximately 99.8% refers to around 650 nm in this sample's chart, not the whole visible spectrum or all materials.
Reducing reflections with LR
LR reduces surface reflections, a different function from material-based spectral transmission. The LR name does not automatically confirm a DuraShield protective layer.
